An Organizer’s Guide to Spring Cleaning

Spring time! The lovely breakaway from winter that comes with a completely renewed sense of energy. There’s outdoor events, the fresh smell of lavender, and just about everyone seems to be in an overly pleasant mood! Oh…and let’s not forget what spring also brings about. A complete wipe down, dusting, and purging of your entire home – Spring Cleaning. Ugh!🙄

Our team of organizers put together a little how-to guide in becoming a Spring Cleaning Boss!

Our 1st tip? Don’t try to do it all at once! Plan each space and make sure YOU aren’t doing all the grunt work! Spring cleaning is something the entire family should be involved in.

Download our Spring Cleaning Printable Checklist for a reminder of the big and little tasks by room!

Pre-Sort with

Not only is it a great time for a deep cleaning, but make the most out of this chore and de-clutter! Organize, pitch, or move your stuff! Maybe it’s time to donate those pleather pants or pitch that year-old mascara! Our 3 Bin, 1 Bag System is the perfect way to sort belongings in every space!

Align 3 large storage bins & one trash bag outside of every room! Our favorite choice is the Hefty® Hi-Rise Storage bins available at Target®! They are clear, clean, and cute! PLUS, they are stackable and have a raised lid so you can get the most out of the container. These can be cleaned and used later to store seasonal or hardly used belongings.

The following graphic shows how our 3 Bin, 1 Bag System should be staged:

After you complete each room, organize the keepers and empty Bin 1! All 3 bins can then come with you to the second space!

2nd Tip – If you lack storage, be sure to pick up additional bins at Target®!  Having uniform bins is aesthetically pleasing and will make you feel more organized!

Final Tip – Save a few dollars and lay off the harsh chemicals by using the following recipe to create 2 organic dusting cleaners!

First, take your empty spray bottles and label them:

Duster (all-purpose) & Duster (w/oil)

Next, find the key ingredients for both recipes:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar (cuts through grease & grime & disinfects)
  • 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil* (Lavender or Lemon works best)

Mix the ingredients and pour into the spray bottle labeled Duster (all-purpose).

Lastly, for a second time create the same recipe above, only this time add 2tsp of Olive Oil to the mix. The olive oil is a perfect additive for wood finishes and trims that help to protect & adds shine! Pour into bottle labeled Duster (w/oil)!

Armed with a cleaning checklist, our organization system, a shopping list, & money-saving cleaning recipes…It’s time to show spring cleaning who is the boss!
